Why You Should Register Your Tires

Why It’s Important to Register Your Tires

Registering your tires is an important component in ensuring that your vehicle and its passengers stay safe on the road. The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada, together with its tire manufacturing company members and Transport Canada, strongly encourage consumers to always register their new tires promptly upon purchase. Registering your tires is an important step to take upon purchase of your new tires as it allows you to receive direct notification in the unlikely event of a product safety-related recall.

The consumer should always be aware that most independent tire dealers and distributors do not offer automatic tire registration, nor are they required to register your tires for you.

Tires Purchased on New Vehicles

Tires fitted as Original Equipment on new vehicles are typically registered by the vehicle dealership when the vehicle is purchased. Consumers should ensure the tire registration is completed.

Tires Purchased on Used Vehicles

Tires fitted on a used vehicle, when purchased, are likely not registered at the time the used vehicle is purchased. It is the responsibility of the used vehicle purchaser to register the tires.
